Our recent Picnic, Pick & Play in the Park event at Hodgkin Park on Wednesday 27th May 2026 was a fantastic success, bringing together families, neighbours, and community partners for a fun-filled afternoon of connection, play, and environmental action.
An incredible 87 community members attended the event, enjoying a relaxed community picnic while helping to keep the park clean and green. Together, volunteers collected an amazing 11 black bags of rubbish during the community litter pick — a brilliant effort from everyone involved!
We were also delighted to be joined by Jackie from CleanupUK, who supported the event and encouraged families and residents to get involved in caring for their local environment.
The community spirit was shining throughout the day, with many attendees bringing along snacks and treats to contribute to the shared picnic table. It was wonderful to see everyone sharing food, chatting, and spending time together outdoors.
Children especially enjoyed the range of activities on offer, including:
- Colourful chalking along the pathways
- Hopscotch games
- Balancing challenges with the giant Tetris game
- Taking part in a scavenger hunt
- Cooling down with ice pops and snacks
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing how much they enjoyed spending time together, making new friends, and feeling proud to make a difference in their community. The event created a welcoming atmosphere where people of all ages could connect, have fun, and work together to care for their local park.
