Carnegie Building Newcastle is a company in its own right with a
Board of Directors.  Felicity Shoesmith and Shirley Irving sit on this
Board along with Christine Rogan and Lou Horsefield from Riverside’s staff team and Vicki Turnbull
from Riverside’s Board of Trustees. You can find Christine’s and Lou’s profiles in
the
staff
section
and Vicki’s in the Riverside trustee area.
Here you can get to know Shirley and Felicity:

Felicity Shoesmith

Carnegie Director

Felicity has lived in Newcastle since 1981 having spent her early years in Malawi and Wimbledon! She came to Newcastle to train as an Occupational Therapist and spent her early career working in a psychiatric hospital before moving to work for North Tyneside Council, initially working in the community. Over a 37 year career with the Council she held a number of different posts, including working with the Community and Voluntary sector, managing European Social Fund projects helping get people into employment and overseeing the building owned by the Local Authority but leases to community organisations. In 2022 Felicity retired and now spends her time as trustee of a number of different charities including one based in Malawi, Africa. She enjoys walking, going to the gym and spending time with her family and friends.

Shirley Irving

Carnegie Director

Shirley lives in the west end of Newcastle and is a retired nurse and complementary therapist. Shirley was a Trustee of Riverside Community Health Project for over ten years.  When she retired from the Riverside role, Shirley decided to stay involved in the Carnegie Building as a director.  This is very helpful as Shirley was closely involved in Riverside at the time it took over the management of the building.   As well as being involved in Riverside / Carnegie for many years, Shirley is well known in the community through her voluntary work in lots of local organisations including Cornerstone, Pendower Good Neighbour Project and St. James’ Church.
