Fixed Term until 30 September 2025 (with potential for an extension subject to funding)
The post is for 17.5 hours per week , which is a half time position (working hours to be agreed)
The salary is £25,101 pro rata (over twelve months this would equate to £12,550)
Riverside Community Health Project (Riverside) works to improve the health and well-being of disadvantaged communities in the West End of Newcastle. We use a community development approach to tackle issues that affect the health of the community.
We are recruiting a Families and Communities Practitioner to work on an exciting new partnership project with West Road Medical Centre. The Welcome Project will assist local people, particularly Romanian, Czech and Slovak speaking families to make use of support from various organisations in the community, including NHS services and screening.
Your role would be to:

- Support people to make use of health and community services.
- Provide welfare support
- Organise community activities such as drop ins, women’s group sessions and special events.
- Promote peoples’ independence by sharing knowledge about existing support in the local community and by signposting to other organisations.
We are seeking somebody with:

- Good communication skills and fluency in Romanian and English
- Good knowledge of the challenges affecting disadvantaged urban communities
- Experience of working in diverse communities
- Commitment to working in partnership with health and community organisations to reduce inequalities
- Good knowledge of welfare and wellbeing services available
- Non-judgemental attitude and ability to empathise with people
- Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft packages
- Ability to monitor activity and contribute to project evaluation
- Organised with good time management
- Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunities
